Rodos can be proud of its shores. Every year, about 30 or more beaches on the island of Rodos are awarded with the Blue Flags, a prestigious environmental award scheme. Managed internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), Blue Flag is a world wide eco label which acts as a guarantee to tourists that a beach or marina has achieved the highest quality in water, facilities, safety, environmental education and management.
Greece participated in this program almost since its conception and always ranked in the among the top 2 contenders. Recently, it was announced that Greece has the cleanest bathing water in the EU. Of the 1,526 Greek beaches monitored for bathing water quality, 98% were found to have sea water of a «good» standard and 95.6% achieved the highest standards possible.
From kilometers long sandy beaches to secluded coves and unspoiled bays, Rodos offers the greatest variety of beautiful beaches for a fantastic holiday under the sun. All of the beaches in the major resorts cater for families and are safe, clean and have good facilities.
The most iconic beaches in Rodos are probably Ladiko and St. Paul’s bay (in Lindos), both offering staggering views and crystal clear waters. For families with small children the beaches on the east coast are the most recommended: Faliraki, Kolymbia, Tsambika and Agathi are ideal as all have broad, long sandy shore and shallow waters.
Along the west coast of Rodos there are some perfect sunset spots, like the bay of Ialissos or further to the south, the bay of Glyfada. This part of the island you will discover some of the most secluded, off the beaten track beaches here you’ll find the perfect places to while away those sunny days .
The beach of Prassonissi is in a class of its own. This unique long sandy beach located at the southern tip of Rodos, is extremely popular particularly among the younger visitors.
