Shopping in Rodos

In addition to being a world-famous holiday destination, Rodos is also internationally renowned as an exciting shoppers' paradise.

For example, shoes are a bargain on Rodos. The Greek footwear industry has come a long way in the last few years and you'll often see models made in Greece that will sell in other European countries at twice the price. Just to mention there are more than 65 shoe shops in the city of Rodos! The soft Rodian peasant boots are desirable and if you can't find a boot maker in the Old Town, you will find several at the village of Archangelos.

Jewellery is usually hand-made. It is often sold by weight so the prices may fluctuate depending on world market bullion prices. Labour costs are low so jewellery is relatively inexpensive. Shops belonging to the Rodos Association of Goldsmiths, Silversmiths and Jewellers guarantee the quality of their merchandise.

Greek handicrafts and folk art are in abundance and you'll see craftsmen and women at various locations producing traditional pottery, hand-carved wood, beaten-metal, embroidery, weaving and knitting. Traditional skills are kept alive and visitors are more than welcome to watch the craftsmen and women wherever you see them at work.

Colourful ceramics, leather goods, old Greek coins, bronze and alabaster statuary, olive-wood carvings, lacework, incense vessels, antique pistols. swords, daggers and so on. It's all there on Socratous Street at the heart of the Medieval city.

In addition to traditional items, visitors will be amazed by the number of boutiques found in Rodos, which count to more than 150, including well known designers such as Versace, Valentino, Escada, Luis Ferraud, Lacoste, Pierre Cardin, YSL, Emporio, Stefanel, Benetton, to name just a few!
