The capital is also called Kos, and is situated at the North Eastern part of the island. It is not a large town but in their greenery the streets look more like impressive avenues. With many archeological sites in and around the town Kos is the ideal place for walking or bicycling with a large variety of tourist shops, bars, coffee shops, tavernas and restaurants. There are hotels and furnished flats inside and on the outskirts of town. There are Banks - Post office - the OTE (Telephone exchange). The town’s museum with quite a few impressive ancient statues and mosaics is a ’must’.The harbor is really picturesque with it’s many excursion boats, yachts and traditional fishing boats.North West of the town is Lambe, beach, where Kos’ «In beaches» lie, and South - East the Psalidi - where you can find the only camping place on the island.Past Psalidi you can find the Thermae (hot springs). This a sulphuric spring especially good for people who suffer from rheumatism and stiff joints. The temperature of the water can sometimes reach 40 degrees Celsius - approximately 110 degrees Fahrenheit. For those who want to stay close to the town, there is within walking distance, beaches with sunbeds, umbrellas and a great variety or water sports.. . . so if it’s summer you want, Kos has what it takes and welcomes you to join in.
